Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 model will now be available in Puerto Rico with prices starting at $39,000.

This new model has a redesigned 208 horsepower, turbo inline engine, which can go from zero-to-60 mph in 6.9 seconds. The car also offers three driving modes Eco, Sport and Manual with the option to control pedals right on the steering wheel.

“We were looking forward to the arrival of the CLA because we know it will become the favorite model of the young professional looking for quality and value for money, without sacrificing the elements that characterize a luxury car,” said Carlos Rafael Quiñones, general manager of Garage Isla Verde, which imports the vehicles. “

The CLA45 AMG model is next on the lineup list headed to Puerto Rico.

The United Group of Automobile Importers, (known as GUIA), predicted that 2014 would be stable for auto sales in Puerto Rico.

2013 was a challenging year for the auto industry. Car sales dropped 11.3 percent in Puerto Rico. January of 2013 1,408 less units were sold compared to the same month in 2012.

GUIA is an organization that manages issues directly related to the automobile industry. GUIA members represent more than 96 percent of total new vehicle sales in Puerto Rico.

GUIA represents the automobile industry in Puerto Rico the organization is responsible for keeping the press and citizens informed about all topics pertaining the industry.

The group expressed their concerns over the effect of the national tax passed last year by the Treasury Department. GUIA said the additional tax will burden on the auto business altogether.

This year is predicted to increase in sales and be more stable than the rough past year the auto industry has had in Puerto Rico.

An estimated $51 billion has been spent on the Sochi Winter Olympics, one of the priciest Olympics in history. A good percentage of this high cost this year is shipping the equipment and goods to the games in Russia.

From a logistical standpoint the Winter Olympics is a huge freight and shipping disaster. The goods needed will be shipped by sea, air, rail, and land and all transportation routes will be monitored by the Federal Customs Service.

Most of the goods include sporting equipment, firearms, hospitality goods, broadcast equipment, computer equipment, and awards. The logistical numbers for shipped freight are immense. To handle this huge shipment, the 2014 Sochi Organizing Committee has appointed an official freight forwarder for freight access to Sochi to ensure the efficiency of this transport.

Once all goods and equipment clear through customs, the freight is loaded on the Russian Railways train and shipped to one of two distribution centers based on the type of freight. This distribution center will be the central hub of all Olympics’ logistics operations. From the distribution centers, all the freight will be organized and available for use.  Every piece of freight requires shipping documents.

The huge amount of products needed to ship were difficult to manage and problems did arise, the Olympics had a rocky start, but a start nevertheless.
